Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting with Chairman of the Council of State of the Sultanate of Oman Abdulmalik Al Khalili as part of her official visit to the Sultanate of Oman. The existence of the bilateral relations based on our countries’ friendship, mutual respect and mutual understanding was underlined at the meeting.
It was said that the historical, religious and cultural similarities of our peoples provide ample opportunities to develop the relations between our countries. The conversation saw an exchange of views upon the links between the two countries’ legislative bodies; it was pointed out that inter-parliamentary interaction is contributing to the on-going development of the relations.
The parties voiced contentment with the deepening of the connexions on the parliamentary level over the past years. It was noted especially that reciprocal visits by Speakers of Parliament and the strengthening contacts within various international organisations have evolved to become a massive expansion factor in our relationship.
Chairman of the Council of State of the Sultanate of Oman Sheikh Abdulmalik Al Khalili voiced a belief that the first official visit of the Speaker of the Milli Majlis to the Sultanate of Oman would be conducive to the bilateral links evolving yet further.
It was stressed that our parliaments have the successful co-operation experience, bilateral as well as upon international parliamentary fora. Amongst other things, mutual support is manifest in such organisations as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly and the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation.
As she was underscoring the significance of the co-operation under the aegis of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, established upon the instance of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova voiced satisfaction with the active engagement of the parliament of Oman within the organisation.
There was also an exchange of opinions concerning other issues of shared interest at the meeting.
