A commemoration event dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly Tragedy was held at the Ministry of Energy.
The event began with a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy and Azerbaijan’s martyrs. In his speech, Deputy Energy Minister Samir Valiyev spoke about the crimes committed by Armenian armed groups on the night of February 25–26, 1992, as well as the atrocities and killings committed against the civilians, including children, women, and the elderly. It was particularly emphasized that the tragedy constituted a crime against humanity. The Deputy Minister also highlighted the steps taken to ensure international recognition of the Khojaly genocide.
It was noted that on the initiative of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, the Azerbaijani parliament adopted a decision on the Day of the Khojaly Genocide on 24 February 1994. At the same time, the work done by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev to promote the Khojaly genocide in the international arena was brought to the attention. It was also stated that the crimes and atrocities committed by Armenians did not break the fighting spirit of the Azerbaijani people. Under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Army liberated the occupied territories as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War and the 23-hour anti-terror operation, thereby avenging the blood of the martyrs. The historic victory achieved also ensured justice for the victims of Khojaly.
During the event, a ministry employee who is the child of a martyr delivered a speech about the Khojaly tragedy and the Karabakh war.
At the conclusion of the event, a short video about the Khojaly genocide was screened.
