On April 20, 2026, a high-level meeting was held between the delegation of AmCham Azerbaijan and the Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AFSA). The meeting focused on discussing state support mechanisms in the food sector, as well as ongoing reforms aimed at improving the business environment.
The meeting brought together the AmCham Azerbaijan delegation, led by Executive Director Zaur Karimov, along with Deputy Chairperson of AFSA Zakiyya Mustafayeva, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Food Safety Institute Ali Nabiyev, and other relevant representatives of both institutions.
During the discussions, AFSA provided a detailed overview of the systematic approaches implemented in the field of food safety, along with recent developments and innovations. Particular emphasis was placed on efforts to simplify procedures for entrepreneurs, expand access to services, and ensure the continuity of processes.
It was noted that, as a result of digitalization, the efficiency of import and export operations has increased, enabling entrepreneurs to obtain permits more quickly and conveniently. Improvements in the quality and speed of laboratory services were also highlighted as having a positive impact on business activities. The parties also discussed opportunities to expand access of locally produced goods to international markets. It was noted that Azerbaijan currently exports food products to more than 70 countries.
AmCham Azerbaijan representatives highlighted practical issues faced by member companies and sector-specific challenges, emphasizing the importance of further strengthening public-private dialogue.
As a result of the discussions, the parties noted the importance of enhancing coordination between AFSA and AmCham Azerbaijan regarding planned changes and improvements to the regulatory framework in the food sector. In this context, the importance of continued engagement with AmCham Azerbaijan was acknowledged, including consideration of member companies’ perspectives in the development of feedback and proposals on legislative changes.
Additionally, cooperation within the AmCham platform was discussed in relation to supporting awareness of regulatory updates and ensuring their effective communication to the business community.
As a result of the discussions, the parties underscored the importance of establishing joint mechanisms to enhance communication with the business community and further strengthen cooperation.
