Another session of the project “Lessons of Professor Nasir Imanquliyev,” dedicated to the 115th anniversary of prominent journalist and public figure Nasir Imanquliyev, was held at Baku State University (BSU) at the initiative of the Student Trade Union Committee of the Faculty of Journalism.
The third session, titled “Refining Traditional Journalism in a Modern Style,” featured honored journalist Elchin Shikhly, Chairman of the Union of Journalists of Azerbaijan and member of the Supervisory Board of the Media Development Agency.
During the meeting, Shikhly addressed key challenges facing modern journalism, particularly the spread of disinformation in both local and international media. He stressed that accuracy must remain the cornerstone of professional journalism, noting that the pursuit of speed often comes at the expense of reliability.
He also highlighted the risks posed by the rapid growth of citizen journalism, emphasizing the importance of professional standards and ethical responsibility. While acknowledging the advantages of digital media, Shikhly pointed to the vulnerability of digital archives to cyber threats, underlining the enduring value of print media.
The event concluded with a discussion session, and students were encouraged to actively participate in upcoming meetings, as the project continues through the end of May.
