Baku State University (BSU) hosted an event titled “The Contract of the Century: The Foundation of Azerbaijan’s Energy Strategy.” The event was attended by Members of the Milli Majlis Vugar Rahimzade and Nagif Hamzayev, as well as university students.
Addressing the students, Vugar Rahimzade spoke about the role of the Contract of the Century, signed at the initiative of Heydar Aliyev, in shaping Azerbaijan’s energy policy and expanding the country’s international economic ties. He noted that diversifying routes for exporting energy resources to global markets had strengthened Azerbaijan’s opportunities for regional and international energy cooperation. He also highlighted the contribution of major energy projects implemented in subsequent years to the sustainable development of the country’s energy strategy.
Nagif Hamzayev discussed the policies pursued in the early years of independence to develop Azerbaijan’s natural resources in line with national interests and bring them to international markets. He emphasized that the energy strategy established through the Contract of the Century created new opportunities for economic development and expanded Azerbaijan’s participation in international energy projects. He described 20 September 1994 as a landmark date in the formation of the country’s energy policy.
The event also featured an exchange of views on Azerbaijan’s energy diplomacy, ongoing regional and international energy projects, energy security and future prospects in the sector.
At the conclusion of the event, the members of parliament answered students’ questions on the topic.
