Professor Varga Kalantarov of Koç University, Türkiye, delivered a lecture titled “The Navier–Stokes and Klein–Gordon Equations” at a joint scientific seminar organised by the Faculties of Mechanics and Mathematics and Physics of Baku State University (BSU).
Professor Kalantarov began by introducing the Navier–Stokes problem, one of the seven Millennium Prize Problems identified by the Clay Mathematics Institute. A prize of USD 1 million is offered for its solution.
The lecture also addressed recent scientific developments in this field. It was noted that on 8 September 2026, OpenAI presented an AI-generated solution to the Navier–Stokes problem, together with its proof. OpenAI stated that the result addresses one of the cases specified in the Clay Mathematics Institute’s official problem formulation. The Institute, in turn, noted that the evaluation of the announced results is ongoing.
The seminar concluded with an exchange of views on the presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session with participants.
