The BSU Journal of Oriental Studies, published by Baku State University (BSU), was presented at the 12th Baku International Book Fair.

Academician Rafael Huseynov, the journal’s founder and editor-in-chief, Professor at the Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Literature at BSU’s Faculty of Oriental Studies, and Director of the National Museum of Azerbaijani Literature, spoke about the publication’s history and academic significance. He noted that Azerbaijan’s first scholarly journal dedicated to Oriental studies was launched in 1926 under the title Proceedings of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Azerbaijan State University. Four issues were published at the time. The journal later continued in the 1970s under the title Oriental Studies and was relaunched in 2021 after a lengthy hiatus. The first issue of the renewed journal was dedicated to the works of the great poet Nizami Ganjavi.

The publication contributes to the study of the history, languages, literature and culture of Eastern peoples and promotes research findings to a wider audience.

Aydan Khandan, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, spoke about the faculty’s establishment, development, academic priorities, language teaching and contribution to Oriental studies. Diplomat Galey Allahverdiyev, a graduate of the faculty, recalled his student years and highlighted the contribution of its alumni to the foreign policy of independent Azerbaijan.
