Baku State University (BSU) held a conference celebrating the 90th anniversary of Niftali Gojayev, Honoured Teacher of Azerbaijan and Consulting Professor at the Department of Optics and Molecular Physics, Faculty of Physics.
Opening the event, BSU Rector Elchin Babayev congratulated Professor Gojayev and highlighted his outstanding contribution to the university and Azerbaijani science. He emphasised the professor's achievements in optics, molecular physics and molecular biophysics, as well as the lasting educational value of his textbooks, which have served generations of students and lecturers.
In recognition of his longstanding academic and teaching career, contribution to the development of physics and dedication to BSU, Rector Elchin Babayev presented Professor Gojayev with a Certificate of Honour.
Dean of the Faculty of Physics Bakhtiyar Pashayev delivered a presentation on the scientist's life and career. He noted that Gojayev, one of Azerbaijan's pioneers in biophysics, had held various academic positions at BSU, including Head of the Department of Optics and Molecular Physics, and had also worked at universities in Türkiye.
Professor Gojayev is the author of approximately 450 scientific articles and more than 20 textbooks, teaching manuals and monographs. His textbook Optics, recommended for university students in 1977, was included in the reading list of Lomonosov Moscow State University and republished in 2016. His achievements have been recognised with several honours, including the honorary title of Honoured Teacher (2016), the BSU 100th Anniversary Medal and the Labour Order, 3rd Class (2019), and the Heydar Aliyev 100th Anniversary Medal (2024).
The conference brought together representatives of the academic community, members of ANAS, university faculty and the professor's family, who paid tribute to his scientific achievements and contribution to the training of future generations.
In his closing remarks, Professor Gojayev thanked the university administration for the recognition and reflected on the responsibilities of an educator, stressing the importance of professional knowledge, humility, integrity and genuine care for students.
