On April 22, 2024, Rovshan Najaf, President of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), held a meeting with Fergus Auld, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Azerbaijan, along with Emma Thomas, the co-head of UKEF's Global Business Origination.
At the meeting, both parties acknowledged the ongoing successful cooperation between our countries across various sectors, particularly the energy industry. The enduring and impactful presence of British companies in Azerbaijan was underscored. Furthermore, discussions encompassed the pivotal role of Azerbaijan's global energy projects in enhancing regional, including European, energy security.
Updates were provided on SOCAR's operations both domestically and internationally, underscoring its evolution from a national oil and gas company into a diversified international energy corporation. Key strategic goals from the Corporate Strategy leading up to 2035 were also discussed.
The dialogue further explored topics such as renewable energy, just energy transitions, decarbonization, 'Net Zero' initiatives, digitalization, human capital development, and other areas of mutual interest.
