The Azerbaijan National Museum of Art will open its new exhibition, ‘Painting and Graphic Art of Azerbaijan 1920-1980s,’ on 5 June 2024 at 19:00. The exhibition will feature 157 works of painting, graphic art, sculpture, and ceramics.
The section of the exhibition dedicated to Azerbaijani paintings from the 1920s to the 1980s will provide a detailed reflection of the art development during this historical period. It will showcase the intensive creative explorations and artistic experiments of the early 20th century in the fine arts, featuring works by prominent painters of the 1920s-1940s, such as Salam Salamzadeh, Rustam Mustafayev, Alakbar Rzaguliyev, Ali Rasim Mukhtarov, Reyhan Topchibashova, Gazanfar Khalygov, Sadig Sharifzadeh, and Davud Kazimov.
Further stages of its development can be traced in the works of several famous Azerbaijani artists, who have entered the golden fund of the national fine arts and whose work is characterised by various themes and styles. All of them together create a complete impression of Azerbaijani painting - colourful landscapes and images of Azerbaijani women created by Maral Rahmanzadeh, landscapes by Khalida Safarova with their rich and bright colour palette, landscapes and still lifes by Sattar Bahlulzadeh, lyrical and emotional landscapes and still lifes inspiringly singing the native land, landscape paintings by Kamil Khanlarov with subtle colour, works by Toghrul Narimanbayov and Nadir Abdurrahmanov with expressive images and rich decorative motifs, thematic paintings by Beyukaga Mirzazadeh depicting simple workers and notable for the beauty of artistic solutions.
The exposition is rounded off by works by Tahir Salahov—images of oil workers impressing with the romanticism of the "severe style" and works on the author's favourite Absheron theme. The exhibition also includes sculptures by Mirali Mirgasimov, Omar Eldarov, Hayat Abdullayeva, Elmira Huseynova, and Khanlar Ahmedov, as well as Azerbaijani graphic art from the 1920s to the 1980s by artists such as Bahruz Kangarli, Azim Azimzadeh, Alakbar Rzaguliyev, Elmira Shahtakhtinskaya, Mikayil Abdullayev, and Sanan Gurbanov.
Additionally, the exhibition presents albums with portraits, landscape sketches, and drawings by Bahruz Kangarli, some of which are displayed electronically via touchscreen. The exhibition also features ceramic works, including statuettes and decorative dishes by artists such as Elena Orbeliani, Zivar Mammadova, Hayat Abdullayeva, Rasim Khalafov, Telman Zeynalov, Oktay Shikhaliyev, Liya Agamalova, Hasanaga Aleskerov, and Saleh Mammadov.
Visitors can actively participate in the exhibition by voting for their favorite work using a QR code in each hall.
