Mercedes driver George Russell set the fastest time in the final practice session for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
Russell topped the one-hour session with a lap of 1:22.219, finishing ahead of Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
The result continued Russell’s strong form after he also topped Friday’s second practice session.
The final hour of running was an eventful one. Early on, Alex Albon reported a problem with his steering wheel and his Williams was taken back into the garage. The issue was subsequently resolved and the Thai driver returned to the track.
Kimi Antonelli briefly moved to the top of the timing sheets with a 1:23.032 lap. However, the Mercedes driver is set to start Sunday’s race from the back of the grid due to a penalty related to a planned engine change.
Red Bull’s Liam Lawson suffered a spin at the first chicane, briefly bringing out yellow flags. The New Zealander reported that he was struggling with the rear of the car in low-speed corners.
The final 15 minutes saw several leading drivers switch to fresh soft tyres, triggering a series of improvements on the timing screens.
One of the most notable moments came when Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen battled for track position. Hamilton made an overtake before the two ran side-by-side down the main straight and had a tense moment approaching Turn 2. The stewards noted the incident but decided not to investigate further.
The top 10 at the end of the session consisted of George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Kimi Antonelli, Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc, Arvid Lindblad, Oscar Piastri, Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto.
With final practice complete, attention now turns to qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix, which is scheduled to begin at 1600 local time.
