The Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) of SOCAR held an event dedicated to the International Mother Language and Culture Day with the participation of foreign students.
Opening the event with an introductory speech, BHOS Rector Elmar Gasimov emphasized the importance of promoting intercultural cooperation and supporting the education of students of different nationalities. It was noted that currently the number of foreign students studying at BHOS is 42.
Foreign students admitted to BHOS are admitted at their own expense, through various grants and financial sources, SOCAR scholarships, Intergovernmental Scholarship Programs, the Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant program, support from sponsoring organizations, centralized examination systems of the State Examination Center, as well as within the framework of partnership programs and bilateral exchange agreements.
They come from China, Bangladesh, Congo, Somalia, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Romania, Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and other countries.
9 students are studying under the Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant Program, 8 Congolese students - under the agreement between the National Petroleum Company of the Congo and SOCAR, 3 students from the People's Republic of China - under the Intergovernmental Scholarship Program, and 3 Nigerian students - under the joint project of BHOS and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research.
For the first time in the history of Azerbaijani education, BHOS has started offering a Chemical Engineering education program to its foreign partners, the Bukhara University of Engineering and Technology and the Tashkent University of Chemical Technologies in Uzbekistan within the framework of a dual diploma program. Already, 19 students from both universities have been involved in the dual diploma program and have started their studies in Uzbekistan.
It was emphasized that BHOS was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation signed by the Minister of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Emin Amrullayev, for “Internationalization Activities” in 2023 and 2024.
Then, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev, Head of the International Cooperation Department of the State Agency for Science and Higher Education Mujdat Hasanov, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Azerbaijan Vasile Soare made speeches, noting that joint education of students of different nationalities in Azerbaijan, especially in BHOS, serves the achievement of academic successes and the development of intercultural undestanding. BHOS was thanked for organizing such an important event and the importance of continuing such initiatives in the future was emphasized.
Throughout the event, students from different countries of the world participated in national costumes and demonstrated presentations, musical performances and various interesting activities reflecting cultural diversity. Students from various countries such as Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Somalia, China, Kazakhstan, India, Russia, Turkey, Pakistan, Iraq, Yemen, Sudan, and Romania participated in this interesting event.
