Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting in the course of her working visit to the United Arab Emirates with Chairman of the country’s Federal National Council Saqr Ghobash.
Saqr Ghobash, who greeted the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament cordially, thanked the Speaker of the Milli Majlis for this visit and for her participation in the 2nd session of the Women Parliamentary Forum of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.
They witnessed contentment with the dynamic and comprehensive advancement of the relations between our countries, and remarked that the strategic partnership ties of our countries that are united by the historical, religious and cultural roots are developing to high standards and across all the vectors. It was emphasised that the joint endeavours and personal relations of our countries’ leaders had made it possible to deepen the links between Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates yet more – and also those between our peoples; our countries enjoy extensive and successful links in many fields today.
Recalling that the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity had been bestowed upon President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis said that our people had appreciated the decoration of our Head of State with such a prestigious award that bears the name of the founder of the United Arab Emirates, the late Sheikh Zayed.
They also exchanged views upon the current state and growth prospects of the inter-parliamentary connexions. It was said that the high-level links between our countries continue with success upon the parliamentary platform as well, and that the contacts and reciprocal visits between our legislative bodies have gathered a greater momentum recently. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova remembered her official visit to the United Arab Emirates and the official visit of Saqr Ghobash to Azerbaijan, both paid last year, saying that those visits and meetings as well as the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding about co-operation between the parliaments allowed for a continued deepening of the bonds. Amongst other things, satisfaction was voiced with the successful co-operation between our parliaments in international parliamentary organisations.
Saqr Ghobash, in turn, too, recalled fondly his visit to Azerbaijan and underlined the favourable input of the meetings held during it in our relationship.
Speaker Sahiba brought up the successful organisation of the 2nd Session of the Women Parliamentary Forum of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean and emphasised such international events’ importance for the discussion of the issues of concern to Humanity.
Other matters of shared interest were exchanged opinions about at the meeting as well.
