Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting with President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) Giulio Centemero on 27 January in the course of her working visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis talked at the meeting about the significance of the 2nd Session of the PAS Women Parliamentary Forum and made her vis-à-vis aware of the Parliament of Azerbaijan being interested in expanding co-operation with this organisation.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova expressed contentment with the affirmation at yesterday’s meeting of the PAM Bureau of the observer status to be granted to the Milli Majlis, going further to state her belief that this status will open up new opportunities to develop inter-parliamentary connexions once the final decision has been passed.
President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Giulio Centemero said in the conversation that the PAS, too, was keen on co-operating with Azerbaijan. As he put it, though Azerbaijan is not in the Mediterranean Region, it nonetheless is situated in a very important region. And this gives rise to considerable parliamentary dialoguing opportunities.
The issues related to co-operation between the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM PN) and the PAS were broached at the meeting as well. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova mentioned the interest of the Milli Majlis in furthering international relations.
The conversation also addressed the NAM PN-PAS co-operation and mutual provision of the observer statuses. It was remarked that both organisations discussing similar topics affords sound co-operation opportunities.
President of the PAS Giulio Centemero shared information about the matters addressed by the organisation and about its activities in the conversation.
Besides, there was an exchange of opinion about other issues of joint interest at the meeting.
