The first meeting of the Joint Working Group on energy cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Serbia in a hybrid format was held at the Ministry of Energy. Co-chaired by Deputy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov and State Secretary of Serbia’s Ministry of Mining and Energy Sonja Vlahović, representatives from SOCAR, AREA, AERA, Azeristiliktechizat OJSC, Ministry of Mining and Energy of Serbia and Srbijagas attended the meeting.
Deputy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov emphasized the developing cooperation between the two countries in various fields, especially in the field of energy. It was noted that the meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council, held on 15 February 2026 in Belgrade under the co-chairmanship of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Serbia, contributed to the expansion of this cooperation.
State Secretary of Serbia’s Ministry of Mining and Energy Sonja Vlahović stressed that cooperation between the two countries reached a strategic level with the memorandum and agreements signed between Azerbaijan and Serbia.
The meeting focused on discussions in the oil and gas sector, energy infrastructure, electricity production, and energy efficiency. It was noted that Azerbaijan's gas supplies to Serbia made a significant contribution to strengthening the energy security of both Serbia and Europe. The meeting also addressed a joint project to construct a gas-fired power plant in Niš, along with cooperation in heat supply, green energy, and energy efficiency initiatives.
