On 2 May, an information session was held in Lankaran as part of the WUF13 Festival, as efforts continue to raise public awareness of the thirteenth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
The session took place at Lankaran State University, bringing together academic staff and students, as well as participants from its Social and Agrarian-Technological College.
Among those addressing the event were Sehran Alishov, Head of the Socio-Political and Humanitarian Affairs Sector at the Lankaran City Executive Authority; Ramiz Idrisoghlu, official representative of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan; and Eldar Rasulov, Senior Manager for Content and Media Relations at the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operations Company. Speakers outlined the significance of WUF13 for Azerbaijan and drew attention to the key themes that will shape discussions during the event.
In his remarks, Sehran Alishov noted that Lankaran, situated along the historic Silk Road, continues to preserve its rich cultural heritage while integrating modern development in harmony with its architectural character. He added that the city has seen a steady rise in population and urban growth in recent years, with new residential developments under way, restoration works carried out on historical sites, improvements to urban infrastructure, and the creation of new public green spaces.
Ramiz Idrisoglu highlighted Azerbaijan’s evolving urban development policy, outlining current initiatives and emerging approaches to employment, inclusivity and mobility in city planning.
Eldar Rasulov encouraged young people to register for and take part in the thirteenth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), to be held in Baku from 17 to 22 May 2026.
The WUF13 Festival will continue in the evening with an open-air public programme starting at 18:00.
Through a programme of interactive activities, educational games, presentations and public discussions, a wide audience will be engaged with themes including sustainable urban development, inclusive urban environments, innovative urban solutions and the cities of the future. Participants will also be offered deeper insight into the core themes and guiding ideas underpinning WUF13.
