The Collegium of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan has approved the technical normative legal act “Oil and Petroleum Product Storage Facilities. Design Standards”, establishing unified mandatory requirements for the design of new, expanded and reconstructed oil and petroleum product storage facilities.
The document is aimed at ensuring the safe siting of oil and petroleum product storage facilities in relation to residential areas, transport infrastructure and utility networks, while minimising their potential impact on the environment.
Particular attention is given to fire and environmental safety. The standards require the application of engineering solutions designed to prevent the occurrence and spread of fires. They also establish requirements for taking into account the results of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and for implementing measures to protect soil, water bodies and ambient air.
With the entry into force of the new standards, the previously applicable СНиП II-106-79 “Oil and Petroleum Product Storage Facilities” will cease to apply within the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
