Taghiyev Film Week to Be Held at CineMastercard in Celebration of National Cinema Day

In celebration of Azerbaijan’s National Cinema Day, the premium cinema chain CineMastercard invites audiences to a special program dedicated to Azerbaijani cinema. From August 2 to 9, Taghiyev Film Week will take place, featuring screenings of all four feature films from the large-scale historical film project.

Produced by Baku Media Center with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the project tells the story of the life, achievements, and legacy of the outstanding Azerbaijani philanthropist, industrialist, and public figure Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev. For the production, the historic districts of Baku from the late 19th and early 20th centuries were meticulously recreated, while thousands of professionals and extras took part in bringing the films to life.

Part 1: “Taghiyev: Oil” (2024) explores Taghiyev’s rise as an industrialist, the development of the oil industry, and the beginning of his philanthropic work.

Part 2: “Taghiyev: Tsar” (2025) takes audiences back to 1888, recounting Emperor Alexander III’s visit to Baku and Taghiyev’s efforts to defend the rights of the local population.

Part 3: “Taghiyev: Sona” (2025) tells the story of the philanthropist’s family life and his wife, Sona Khanum Taghiyeva.

Part 4: “Taghiyev: School” (2026) focuses on the opening of the first secular school for girls in the Muslim East in 1901—one of the most significant achievements of Taghiyev’s life and a lasting symbol of his commitment to education and enlightenment.

Taghiyev Film Week offers audiences a unique opportunity to celebrate National Cinema Day, experience one of the largest cinematic projects of recent years and revisit the remarkable legacy of a man whose name remains inseparably linked with the development of education, culture, and philanthropy in Azerbaijan.
