Argentine Formula 1 driver Franco Colapinto has expressed his gratitude to Alpine for the trust shown in him after agreeing to extend his contract with the team.
Colapinto will remain with Alpine for the 2027 season, continuing alongside Pierre Gasly as the team retains its current driver line-up.
Speaking ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, the 23-year-old said he was delighted to continue his journey with the Enstone-based outfit. Colapinto has scored 19 points so far this season and currently sits 12th in the Drivers’ Championship.
The Argentine praised the progress made by both himself and the team over the past year, saying they had developed significantly and had become “a big family”.
Colapinto also expressed his appreciation for the opportunity given to him by Alpine Executive Advisor Flavio Briatore, as well as the trust he had received since joining the team.
The contract extension comes ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, where Alpine will introduce its latest upgrade package on both cars. The new components were previously tested by Gasly at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort.
Colapinto is optimistic that the upgrades can help Alpine improve its competitiveness at Monza.
Alpine is also involved in a close battle with Racing Bulls for fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship. Following the Dutch Grand Prix, the gap between the two teams stands at just three points.
Colapinto acknowledged the tight competition and also highlighted the pace of Audi. However, he said Alpine has confidence in its current package and will aim to extract the maximum performance from the car in order to finish ahead of its rivals.
