Fuzuli, "innews media" — The opening ceremony of the Mingachevir Regatta 2026, an international rowing and canoeing tournament, has been held at the Aşağı Kondalanchay Reservoir in Fuzuli.
The ceremony was attended by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, President of the Azerbaijan Water Sports Federation Vugar Ahmadov, and other officials.
The tournament is jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Water Sports Federation and will run from September 29 to October 1.
The first stage of the competition took place at the Aşağı Kondalanchay Reservoir in Fuzuli, featuring 200-metre kayak and canoe races.
Various entertainment programs, shows and quizzes were also organized for local residents, particularly children and young people. Participants and visitors were also given an opportunity to try rowing in recreational kayaks.
The regatta will continue over the next two days at the Kur Olympic Training and Sports Center in Mingachevir. Competitions in all disciplines and distances will be held there, with the winners of the tournament to be determined.
More than 100 athletes from Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Ukraine and Uzbekistan are taking part in the Mingachevir Regatta 2026.
It should be noted that since 2022, the Azerbaijan Water Sports Federation has regularly organized international rowing and canoeing competitions at various water reservoirs across Azerbaijan. These events have included the President’s Cup and Mingachevir Regatta at the Sugovushan and Kondalanchay reservoirs.
This year, an international competition was held for the first time at the Sarsang Reservoir. The opening day of the “President’s Cup 2026” regatta, dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, was held at Sarsang.
