Mingachevir Regatta 2026: Winners of first day’s competitions awarded in Fuzuli

Fuzuli, "innews media" — The first competition day of the Mingachevir Regatta 2026, an international rowing and canoeing tournament, has concluded in Fuzuli.

According to "innews media", the opening day of the competition was held at the Kondalanchay Reservoir in Fuzuli. The tournament is jointly organized by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Water Sports Federation (AWSF).

Following the official opening ceremony, the competitions got underway with 200-metre races in single kayaks and canoes. Winners were determined across different age categories.

Azerbaijani athletes secured four medals on the opening day. Alimurad Hajizada (2008/2009) won gold, Nuran Rahimli (2008/2009) took silver, while Huseyn Samadli (2008/2009) and Elmir Tagiyev (2010/2011) claimed bronze medals.

The awards were presented to the winners by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov and Vugar Ahmadov, head of the Azerbaijan Water Sports Federation.

More than 100 athletes from Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Ukraine and Uzbekistan are taking part in the international tournament.

The final two days of the Mingachevir Regatta 2026 will be held at the Kur Olympic Training and Sports Centre in Mingachevir.
