Mingachevir, "innews media" — Azerbaijani rower Azer Ilyasov won a gold medal on the second day of the Mingachevir Regatta 2026 international tournament.
According to "innews media", the athlete, born in 2008-2009, finished first in the 1,500-metre single sculls event, beating his rivals to claim the top spot.
Speaking after the race, Ilyasov said he had prepared seriously for his opening event and was pleased with the result.
“I am a member of the national academic rowing team. On the second day of the Mingachevir Regatta 2026, I competed in the 1,500-metre single sculls event and won the gold medal after finishing ahead of my rivals. I achieved this through hard work, as I had prepared extensively for the competition,” the athlete said.
Ilyasov also outlined his plans for the third day of the tournament.
“Tomorrow I will compete in the double sculls. My goal is to finish first there as well and raise the Azerbaijani flag. I am grateful to everyone who has supported me and contributed to my success,” he added.
The athlete thanked his family for their support, the federation for providing the necessary conditions for the competition, and his coaches for their work throughout his preparation.
Azerbaijani athletes won a total of seven medals on the second day of the Mingachevir Regatta 2026.
