Fuad Muradov, chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, met Jahangir Atasevar, one of the first astronauts of Türkiye, a participant of the 74th International Astronautical Congress held in Baku.

Jahangir Atasevar, one of the first two astronauts selected from among 36 thousand candidates of Türkiye, is Azerbaijani on his mother's side. Atasevar graduated from Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of Bilkent University and started to work in the position of system engineer at “Roketsan”. He holds master's degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of California, Irvine.

The meeting focused on Jahangir Atasevar's achievements and pre-flight preparations.  It was noted that his success brought pride not only to Türkiye, but also to Azerbaijan.

It should be noted that the Astronaut’s mother, Malahat Atasevar, is one of the well-known representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Türkiye.

Expressing their gratitude for the warm welcome, the guests have underlined that they are proud of the victories of our country. Jahangir Atasevar has told that he is looking forward to the day when the Turkish language will be heard from the Space for the first time in history.

The chairman of the State Committee wished success to the astronaut, who is currently undergoing flight training in the United States, and has expressed his confidence that he will always raise the name of the two brotherly countries.

At the end of the meeting, souvenirs were presented to the guests.
