Baku Jazz Festival 2024 this fall will present a wide program with the participation of world stars and Grammy Award winners.

The headliner of the 19th Baku Jazz Festival, which will take place from October 17 to 27, will be the top star of world jazz, the famous American jazz vocalist, two-time Grammy Award winner, recognizable both by his velvety voice timbre and the “ubiquitous” hat Gregory Porter.

Fans of Gregory Porter are already familiar with the magical power of his voice, smoothly spreading through the heart like honey. His passion for fusing jazz, blues, soul and gospel comes from his Bakersfield roots. Porter's voice has the husky tones of Sam Cooke, but also the buttery sound of his favorite artist, Nat "King" Cole. Sincere self-composed lyrics filled with real-life experiences and carefully thought-out arrangements by Donny Hathaway have become the formula for success and worldwide popularity of one of the best soul singers of the last decade, Gregory Porter.

Porter is almost never seen without his famous flat peaked hat. This is a somewhat modified balaclava, but without the fabric covering the face. The singer says it's his "way of hiding" and calls it a "jazz hat."

In a 2012 interview with Jazzweekley, Gregory Porter explained why he started wearing a beanie: “I had several surgeries on my face, and my skin began to look different. Then I decided to wear a headdress. I didn't need to wear it all the time, but over time I noticed that this made me different from other artists. I made it my thing and decided to continue appearing in public wearing it. Now people recognize me. It is what it is".
