On January 31, 2025, at 18:00, the opening ceremony of the personal exhibition "On the Wings of Dreams" will take place at the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art. This exhibition features the works of Sirus Mirzazadeh, a People's Artist and one of the most prominent representatives of contemporary art. Organized jointly by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art, the exhibition will showcase approximately 100 paintings, graphic works, and photographs of his monumental paintings.
Sirus Mirzazadeh is one of the artists who has left a distinctive artistic legacy in both monumental and easel painting, as well as in the field of graphics, making remarkable contributions to the national art school. The artist, a graduate of the Azim Azimzadeh Azerbaijan State Art School and the Russian State University of Art and Industry, (formerly known as the Moscow State Stroganov Academy of Industrial and Applied Arts or the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture) embarked on his unique creative journey in the 1970s. His works, rooted in tradition and modernity, are distinguished by a distinctive style that reflects the artist’s poetic mindset, philosophical perspective on life, passion for beauty, and similar artistic traits.
The exhibition showcases a diverse array of works, featuring graceful and enchanting portraits of women set in dreamlike realms, complete with various interiors and landscapes. It includes charming depictions of the artist's beloved hoopoe and narrative scenes from the "Adam and Eve" and "The Artist and the Model" series, where the characters' emotions and personalities are skillfully portrayed. Additionally, there are other paintings that highlight the artist's vivid imagination and exceptional artistic taste. Notable pieces such as "Red Morning," "In the Royals," "Sweet Dreams," "Meeting with the Hoopoe," and "In the Light of the Lamp" all imbue a lyrical mood. The artist's interpretation is reflective of a unique Eastern ambiance, mythology, and miniature style, drawing from the artist's genetic memory. It also incorporates elements of our rich cultural heritage, including carpets and mugham.
The monumental painting, a key element of Sirus Mirzazadeh's artistic career, is showcased in the exhibition through photographs of frescoes, mosaics, and stained glass found in buildings throughout Baku and other cities and regions. These works provide a comprehensive view of the artist's diverse creativity.
The exhibition runs until March 1, 2025.
