Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting during her official visit to the Sultanate of Oman with the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr al-Busaidi.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr al-Busaidi mentioned at the meeting the benevolent influence of the relations of the parliaments upon the links between our countries and peoples; he also emphasised the special significance of the visit of the Speaker of the Milli Majlis in this regard.
He talked about the existing considerable co-operation potential that our countries have with regards to political, economic, tourism and business areas. According to him, the parliaments stood poised to contribute importantly to a continued expansion of the links in those fields.
The Minister pointed out that the strategic geographic position of Azerbaijan affords extensive logistical and transport opportunities whereas the location of Oman on the crossing of the main international transport routes will promote a continued broadening of the co-operation.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova remarked in the course of the meeting that the existing relations between Azerbaijan and Oman stand on a solid foundation and that there are broad prospects for their continued development.
She mentioned the co-operation of the two countries continuing successfully in international organisations and mentioned the invariable support of the Sultanate of Oman to our country when documents regarding Azerbaijan’s territorial wholeness and sovereignty are adopted.
As was said at the meeting, the opening of the embassy of Azerbaijan in the Sultanate of Oman makes it possible to move the bilateral relations to a higher level. Besides, attention was drawn to the importance of contacts between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and of Economy of the two countries.
Sahiba Gafarova mentioned the immense appreciation of the co-operation between the legislative bodies and the consistent efforts made to ensure continuity of mutual support via parliamentary diplomacy. It was said that the inter-parliamentary co-operation has expanded dramatically and that meetings have been held during various visits and events pursuant to the first meeting of the two countries’ Speakers that took place in January 2023.
The parties remarked that the contacts maintained provided for greater strengthening of the bonds between our countries.
As Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasised, Azerbaijan and Oman are peaceful states giving special significance to stability and co-operation. This, therefore, makes the progress in the relationship of the two countries logical as well as necessary by its very essence.
The meeting also addressed humanitarian co-operation issues. It was stressed in the context that the visit of Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva to this country mattered with respect to discussing cultural ties and humanitarian co-operation.
The conversation also included an exchange of views upon the current situation in the region. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova remarked that, following the de-occupation of the Azerbaijani territories, a peace process was initiated in the region upon the instance of our country and that, especially after the Washington Summit, important achievements were made in the course of the normalisation between Azerbaijan and Armenia. It was also said that the work being done on building new regional transport connexions would promote stability and co-operation in the region.
