The U23 European Wrestling Championship in Zrenjanin, Serbia, has concluded.
On the final, seventh day of the competition, medalists in the 60, 67, 72, 82, and 97 kg weight categories in Greco-Roman wrestling were determined.
Ayxan Javadov (60 kg) lost 1:3 to Ukraine’s Yevgeni Pokovba in the bronze medal match, finishing 5th in his debut tournament.
Farid Khalilov (67 kg) faced Hungary’s Petro Jitovoz in the contest for third place. In a match with mutual scoring, Khalilov won 5:3 and claimed the bronze medal.
Faraim Mustafayev (72 kg) defeated Dimitro Vasilyev 4:2 in the repechage and then faced Romania’s Leonard Yurascu in the bronze medal match. Falling behind 0:4 early in the bout, Mustafayev showed determination and came back to win 5:4, securing another medal for the national team.
Elmin Aliyev (82 kg) wrestled Georgia’s Tornike Mikeladze in the final. Despite trailing 0:2, Aliyev took control and celebrated a 3:2 victory, becoming the U23 European champion.
In Greco-Roman wrestling, our team finished the championship with 1 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals, ranking 4th in the team standings with 100 points. It should be recalled that the previous day Farid Sadikhli (55 kg) won silver, while Ilkin Gurbanov (63 kg) claimed bronze.
