Baku is preparing to host the prestigious international triathlon competition “Alufar IRONMAN 70.3”.
More than 1,500 athletes representing 62 countries will line up for the race on September 5. Azerbaijan will be represented by 123 athletes.
Participants in “IRONMAN 70.3” will compete in men’s and women’s categories across 13 age groups: 18–24, 25–29, 30–34, 35–39, 40–44, 45–49, 50–54, 55–59, 60–64, 65–69, 70–74, 75–79 and 80–84. The youngest participant is 18, while the oldest is 80. A total of 807 men and 197 women will take to the start line.
The event will also feature a relay competition, with 47 men’s, women’s and mixed teams taking part. The three most active clubs will also receive awards following the competition.
The “IRONMAN 70.3” course consists of a 1.9-kilometre swim, a 90-kilometre bike ride and a 21.1-kilometre run.
The top 25 athletes in both the men’s and women’s categories at “IRONMAN 70.3 Baku” will earn qualification for the “IRONMAN 70.3” World Championship, which will be held in the United States in 2027.
As part of “Alufar IRONMAN 70.3 Baku”, the “IRONKIDS” children’s race and the “Fun Run” will also take place on September 4. In “IRONKIDS”, children aged 5-8 will run 500 metres, participants aged 9-13 will cover 1 kilometre, and those aged 14-17 will complete a 2-kilometre course. The 5-kilometre “Fun Run” is open to all participants aged 18 and over. Registration for both events is currently open.
The events are organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Triathlon Federation and Baku City Circuit Operations Company.
