Rafael Camara takes Formula 2 pole at Monza

Invicta Racing driver and Ferrari junior Rafael Camara secured pole position in FIA Formula 2 Qualifying at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza.

The Brazilian set a best time of 1:31.326 to take the top spot, finishing just 0.057 seconds ahead of his Invicta team-mate Joshua Duerksen.

Camara secured provisional pole with his first flying attempt, while traffic during the closing stages of the session prevented several drivers from improving their lap times.

The result is particularly important for Camara's championship ambitions, with current championship leader Nikola Tsolov qualifying only sixth.

Alexander Dunne took third for Rodin Motorsport. The British driver recovered from a trip through the gravel and a subsequent aborted lap to secure a place in the top three.

Campos Racing’s Noel Leon, who had briefly moved to the top of the timing sheets earlier in the session, eventually finished fourth.

Martinius Stenshorne was another driver to improve on his final attempt, moving up to fifth and finishing ahead of championship leader Tsolov.

The remaining positions in the top 10 went to Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak, Ritomo Miyata, Oliver Goethe and John Bennett.

Championship runner-up Gabriele Mini qualified 11th, finishing just 0.033 seconds behind Bennett.
