As part of WTDC-25 in Baku, the leadership of the Information and Communication Technologies Agency (ICTA), Azerbaijan’s regulatory authority for telecommunications and postal services, met with representatives of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The guests were briefed on the Agency’s activities, objectives, and recently implemented projects. Nail Mardanov, Chairman of ICTA’s Board, highlighted that, despite its recent establishment, the Agency has made significant progress in improving telecommunications regulation, enhancing service quality, and strengthening the digital market. The ICTA official expressed interest in expanding relations with multinational companies such as META and Google and stated their intention to benefit from FCC support in this area. It was also emphasized that studying international best practices is a priority for the effective regulation of the telecommunications sector. The FCC’s long-standing regulatory experience and applied models are of particular interest to Azerbaijan and are considered valuable benchmarks for shaping ICTA’s future regulatory framework.
FCC officials, in turn, highlighted their interest in further expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan’s regulatory authority. They noted that the FCC’s regulatory standards differ from the European model and expressed their willingness to explore closer collaboration with ICTA.
During the meeting, the parties agreed to expand experience-sharing and to intensify reciprocal visits and working meetings.
