The ITU Global Youth Celebration 2025 (GYC-25), held within the framework of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25) and dedicated to young people, took place in Baku.
The event brought together more than 500 participants from over 60 countries, aiming to unite young innovators, government officials, and industry leaders to actively engage youth in shaping the future of digital development.
At the opening ceremony of the Global Youth Celebration, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Samaddin Asadov, and Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, delivered speeches.
The speakers highlighted the importance of youth actively participating in the ICT sector, as well as the crucial role of the space industry and technology in advancing global development goals.
Following the opening ceremony, an “Intergenerational Dialogue” session was held, where young participants from ITU’s six regional offices and from Azerbaijan exchanged ideas.
As part of the event, interactive sessions, workshops, and dialogues were organized at the National Aviation Academy, Azercosmos’ SPACE Academy, and the STEAM Innovation Center.
At the National Aviation Academy, an interactive session dedicated to creating equal opportunities for young professionals through ICT was conducted. A technical tour was organized to the simulators, aerospace laboratories, and the aviation technology center.
At Azercosmos’ SPACE Academy, a workshop titled “Establishing Telecommunications with the International Space Station (ISS)” was held for university students. During the workshop, students assembled their own orbital antennas and learned how to establish live communication with the ISS.
At the STEAM Innovation Center, an interactive panel featured astronauts Alper Gezeravcı (Türkiye’s first astronaut), Tuva Cihangir Atasever (Türkiye’s second astronaut), and Dumitru-Dorin Prunariu (Romania’s first astronaut).The panel discussion focused on the role of telecommunications in space research and concluded with an autograph session.
The event concluded with a cultural and intergenerational networking session at the Hilton Hotel, bringing together WTDC-25 participants, young professionals, and prominent public figures in an environment that fostered collaboration and dialogue.
